Narikala castle at the night2903 viewsOverlooking the old town, the imposing Deda Tsikhe (Mother Fortress) or Kala, called Narikala in the 18th century, stands on the top of the cliff above Tbilisi botanical gardens. In the 8th century, the fortress was a seat of the Arab Emir. There used to be a royal palace, a caravanserai, towers and other structures within the citadel. There was a 12th century church inside the Narikala complex, which was rebuilt in 1996 and designed in keeping with the fortress surrounding it.
